Government Mandates Passed

More government mandates are passed that directly oppress immigrant populations in the United States, including the Real ID Act, Operation Rollback, and the CLEAR Act. Chinook Fund takes a radical stance as a funder in response to injustice. At the same time, demonstrations like the Migrant Trail Walk start to bring immigrant rights issues into the national spotlight. Acknowledging the failures of the immigration reform in 2004, President Bush passes the Temporary Guest Worker Program. The program allows immigrants holding jobs to retain temporary legal status for up to 6 years, and opens up the much-needed dialogue on immigration policy.
